Skin Prep Before a Wedding or Diwali: A 30-Day Plan for Indian Skin

A month will not clear acne or fade an old mark, but it is enough to avoid the mistakes that show on the day. A week-by-week pre-wedding skincare routine that also works for Diwali, with sources.

KoreCare PDRN cream and Collagen Night Wrapping Mask side by side on a blush background

The best pre-wedding skincare routine is a 30-day countdown that gets simpler as the day gets closer: start anything new a month out, protect your skin from sun and irritation every day, rehearse at two weeks, and change nothing in the final week. It works for the bride, the groom and the guests, and for Diwali too. A month will not clear acne or fade an old mark. The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) says an acne treatment needs 6 to 8 weeks to show some improvement, and that a dark spot a few shades darker than your skin usually fades within 6 to 12 months. What a month can do is stop new problems from starting, and have your skin looking smooth on the day.

We sell some of what this plan uses: the PDRN Repair Cream and the Collagen Night Wrapping Mask, sold together as The Duo, plus two lip products and a spot patch. Read this as advice from a shop; every outside fact links to its source.

Diwali 2026 and wedding muhurat dates for 2026–27

Diwali (Lakshmi Puja) is on Sunday, 8 November 2026, the same day as Tamil Deepavali this year, with Dhanteras on Friday, 6 November, according to Drik Panchang's Diwali calendar for New Delhi.

For Hindu weddings, Drik Panchang's 2026 marriage calendar for New Delhi has no muhurats in August, September or October. They resume on Saturday, 21 November, with four dates in November and seven in December, the last on 12 December. After a break, the 2027 calendar picks up again on Friday, 15 January, and its winter dates run until 14 March. Dates vary by region, community and panchang, so count back from your own.

The 30-day pre-wedding skincare routine at a glance

Most of this plan happens at home, whether or not you also book a salon pre-bridal package. If you are the groom, skip any makeup or lip steps you don't need.

When Do Avoid
4 weeks out Patch test anything new; daily sunscreen; start the night routine; see a dermatologist about acne or pigmentation Quick-fix creams; a first-ever peel
2 weeks out Makeup trial over your skincare; rehearse lips and a spot patch; book threading and waxing New actives; first-time facials or bleach
Final week The same routine every night New products; scrubs; threading, waxing or peels in the last few days
Night before Cleanse, cream, overnight mask Anything new; sleeping in makeup
The day Peel the mask; patch any new spot; sunscreen; lip mask, then plumper Squeezing spots

4 weeks out: start anything new now, or after the wedding

The AAD's patch-test method is to apply a new product to a coin-sized spot, such as the underside of your arm or the bend of your elbow, twice a day for 7 to 10 days. If the skin turns red, itchy or swollen, wash it off and don't use the product again. Start testing at four weeks and a product reaches your face about two and a half weeks before the day. Anything you have not started by now can wait until after.

Skip quick fixes. Switching acne products every week or so can irritate skin and cause breakouts, the AAD warns. The Indian Association of Dermatologists, Venereologists and Leprologists (IADVL) says steroid creams misused on the face, often promoted as fairness creams, can cause acne. If acne or pigmentation is your main worry, see a dermatologist now; IADVL notes that seeing one early can help prevent acne scars, and it has a directory to find one.

Decide on clinic and salon treatments now.

  • Peels. According to IADVL, recovery takes a few hours to a couple of days for a light peel, and about a week or more, with visible peeling, for a medium one. Darker skin has a higher risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, where skin heals darker. This month is not the time for your first peel.
  • Lip filler. Swelling usually takes two to four weeks to fully resolve, says Cleveland Clinic, which advises leaving enough time before an event such as a wedding. Our lip plumper vs lip filler guide compares the two.
  • Facials, clean-ups and bleach. IADVL lists a sudden bout of acne after facials, clean-ups or bleaching as common. If one is in your plan, have it now, so you see how your skin reacts.

Wear sunscreen every day from now on. Dark spots are one of the most common reasons people with darker skin tones see a dermatologist, the AAD says, and they can appear when a pimple clears or a product irritates the skin. It recommends a tinted sunscreen with iron oxide, which protects against visible light, a cause of dark spots, with SPF 30 or higher, broad-spectrum protection and water resistance. For Indian skin, IADVL says SPF 30 and PA+++ with water resistance is enough, and for oily or acne-prone skin it suggests a non-comedogenic gel sunscreen.

The night routine for the month

  1. Take off makeup and cleanse. Remove all makeup before bed, even after a late function: "No exceptions", says the AAD. IADVL also advises cleansing after sweating or exposure to pollutants.
  2. The PDRN Repair Cream. Warm a small amount between your fingers and massage it into your face and neck until absorbed. It is a cooling gel cream that absorbs without tack, with niacinamide for a more even-looking tone and panthenol for comfort. It contains fragrance, and its PDRN comes from salmon DNA, so it is not vegetarian or vegan; what PDRN is has the detail.
  3. The Collagen Night Wrapping Mask, last. One even layer, away from the immediate eye area. It feels tacky for about a minute, then sets into a flexible film; on a humid night, wait until it stops feeling tacky before you lie down. Sleep in it and peel it off from one edge in the morning, with nothing to rinse.

Use the mask nightly or two to three times a week. Expect skin that looks smoother and more hydrated by morning; our guide to whether collagen masks work explains why, and where the claims stop. Neither product treats acne or pigmentation. Patch test both first. If your skin is already used to retinol or exfoliating acids, keep them, on separate nights from the cream at first, but add nothing new. The key ingredients of both products are explained in our ingredient dictionary.

The Duo pairs the cream and the mask for ₹999 for both (the 20 ml cream and the 75 ml mask; price checked 12 October 2026), with the discount applied automatically in the cart.

2 weeks out: rehearse the day

  • Do your makeup trial over your real skincare. Cream and sunscreen first, as on the day, then wear the makeup for a few hours to see how it holds up.
  • Rehearse your lips. Patch test the lip products, then try the full order once: lip mask, plumper, colour. Settle on your number of plumper clicks.
  • Try a spot patch under foundation, so the day is not the first time.
  • Book threading and waxing for a few days to a week before your first function. Most people get threaded every three to four weeks, says Cleveland Clinic, so brows will still be neat. Stop retinol and retinoids five to seven days before threading (Cleveland Clinic) and two to five days before waxing your face (AAD).
  • Ask your mehendi artist for natural henna. "Black henna" is made by adding PPD, a chemical also used in hair dye. DermNet notes that a reaction usually shows 7 to 14 days after first contact, but in someone already sensitised to PPD by earlier exposure it develops within 48 hours, so a reaction to black henna at a mehendi a day or two before the wedding can show on the day itself. Reactions can blister, and can leave darker patches or a white outline of the design.

The final week: nothing new

  • No new products. There is no time left to patch test, and on darker skin a product that irritates can leave a dark spot that lasts months. If anything burns or stings, stop using it, the AAD says.
  • No threading, waxing or peels in the last few days. Threading can leave redness, irritation and even moderate swelling for hours, and Cleveland Clinic suggests going makeup-free for a few days afterwards if you can. The AAD says to see a dermatologist if redness or swelling after waxing lasts more than two days, and never to wax sunburned or very sensitive skin. After a peel, IADVL says skin can feel tight and red, may peel over the next few days, and is best left without makeup for a day or two.
  • No scrubs. Scrubbing can irritate skin and make acne flare, says the AAD, and IADVL calls physical scrubs too harsh for the face. If your haldi uses an ubtan paste, try it on a small patch of skin well before the day, and smooth it on rather than scrubbing.
  • Keep the night routine after every function, however late. IADVL lists stress among the things that can aggravate acne, and its everyday advice stresses sound sleep.

The night before

Stick to what you know: take off the evening's makeup, cleanse, then the PDRN Repair Cream and the Collagen Night Wrapping Mask. Let the mask set before you lie down. Nothing new tonight: no new mask, serum or facial. In the morning, peel it off from one edge in one piece.

On the day: skin and lips, step by step

  1. Peel off the mask and cleanse as usual.
  2. Patch any new spot first. The ultra-thin spot patch goes on straight after cleansing, on completely dry skin. Pat the next layers on around it rather than rubbing; makeup can go over it.
  3. A thin layer of the PDRN cream, if you like; it sits under makeup. Let it absorb.
  4. Sunscreen, after skincare and under makeup, at least 30 minutes before you go out, IADVL advises.
  5. Makeup.
  6. About 10 minutes before lipstick, the HydraGlow Lip Mask. One even layer on clean, dry lips, slightly past the lip line. Wait about 10 minutes, without pressing your lips together, while it turns from glossy to matte, then peel it off from one corner. It lifts dry flakes as it comes away, so colour sits smoother. It contains alcohol, which helps the film dry; skip it on cracked, bleeding or sunburnt lips.
  7. Then the Extreme Lip Plumper, then colour. One click gives everyday volume and soft warmth, two a noticeably fuller look, three the fullest; use the number you rehearsed. Apply with the tip, massage to spread and let it absorb before lipstick. Two warming agents increase blood flow in the lip: a temporary, topical effect, not a procedure. The tingle settles within a few minutes; if it stings rather than warms, wash it off. Skip it on broken, chapped or split lips, or if you are sensitive to capsicum or vanillyl derivatives.
  8. Through the day, reapply sunscreen every two hours and after sweating, as the AAD advises. Carry spare patches.
  9. That night, take everything off before bed, patch included: even non-comedogenic makeup can cause acne if you sleep in it, the AAD notes.

If a pimple appears before the wedding

Don't squeeze it. Squeezing often pushes what is inside deeper into the skin, which increases inflammation and can make the spot more noticeable or leave a scar, says the AAD. On darker skin, the mark a pimple leaves can outlast it by months.

  • A small spot that is just starting: cover it. Our patch is 0.013 mm (13 micrometres) thick, thinner than a human hair, which measures 17 to 181 micrometres across, so it lies flat under foundation and keeps fingers off. Our guide on how to use pimple patches covers when one helps and when it doesn't. Not for broken, irritated or sunburnt skin, or if you are allergic to salicylic acid.
  • A large, painful lump in the final week: see a dermatologist. A corticosteroid injection flattens most acne nodules or cysts within 48 to 72 hours, the AAD says; a doctor gives it, for one especially painful spot, not several.
  • Don't start a new acne product now. IADVL notes that acne treatments applied to the skin can cause irritation, dryness or even worse acne at first.

Diwali skin care, or a party this week

The same countdown works for a Diwali party. After an evening outdoors among firecracker smoke, cleanse before bed: IADVL advises cleansing after exposure to pollutants. If festive food seems to set off breakouts, IADVL says acne is not caused by specific foods, but that sweets and dairy such as paneer, butter and ghee can trigger or worsen existing acne in some people.

If the party is only days away, change nothing and use only products you know. Thread or wax only if it is still a few days off, and use the overnight mask the night before only if you have used it before.

Frequently asked questions

How many days before a wedding should I start skin care?

At least 30 days for anything new, since a patch test alone takes 7 to 10 days. For acne or pigmentation, see a dermatologist months ahead: the AAD gives acne treatment 6 to 8 weeks to show improvement, and says a dark spot a few shades darker than your skin usually fades within 6 to 12 months.

When should I get threading or waxing done before the wedding?

A few days to a week before your first function, not the morning of, so any redness has settled before makeup goes on. If you use retinol or a retinoid, stop it five to seven days before threading (Cleveland Clinic) and two to five days before waxing your face (AAD).

Should I get a facial before my wedding?

Only one your skin already knows, and not in the final week. IADVL says a sudden bout of acne after facials, clean-ups or bleaching is common.

What should I do about a pimple the night before my wedding?

Don't squeeze it: the AAD says squeezing often pushes what is inside deeper, which increases inflammation and can leave the spot more noticeable, or a scar. Cover a small, new spot with a thin patch that makeup can go over. For a large, painful lump, call a dermatologist as soon as it appears: the AAD says a corticosteroid injection flattens most acne nodules or cysts within 48 to 72 hours.

When is Diwali in 2026?

Sunday, 8 November 2026, with Dhanteras on Friday, 6 November, according to Drik Panchang's calendar for New Delhi.
