Lip Plumper vs Lip Filler: What Each Does and Costs in India (2026)
Lip filler is a medical procedure that lasts months; a lip plumper is a temporary cosmetic effect. Here is what each does, what clinics in five Indian cities charge, and how to choose.
Lip filler is a medical procedure: a doctor injects a hyaluronic acid gel into your lips, and the result lasts months. A lip plumper is a cosmetic you apply yourself: it makes lips look fuller for a short time by drawing blood to the surface or holding water in it, and the effect is temporary. At the clinic pages we checked in five Indian cities on 2 October 2026, most published filler prices fell between ₹15,000 and ₹42,000 per syringe or ml; a plumper costs far less, and does far less.
We sell a plumper under our own label, the Extreme Lip Plumper, so read this as a guide from the company selling the cheaper option. Every outside fact and price below comes from a source we link. Naming a clinic here is not a recommendation.
What lip filler is
Lip fillers are usually made of hyaluronic acid (HA), says Cleveland Clinic, which the US Food and Drug Administration describes as "a sugar that is naturally found in the body". The gel is injected into the lip to add volume and shape. The FDA classes fillers as medical device implants and says having one injected "should be considered a medical procedure, not a cosmetic treatment."
It is temporary, because the body breaks HA down and absorbs it. Estimates of how long it lasts vary: the American Academy of Dermatology gives 4 to 12 months for HA gel, while Cleveland Clinic says lip fillers typically last 12 to 18 months. Plan in months, not years.
HA filler can also be undone. A doctor can inject an enzyme, hyaluronidase, that breaks it down, usually in one to two visits. That works only on HA: filler containing silicone or other substances cannot be dissolved, and the FDA warns that non-HA fillers can be "difficult or impossible to remove". Ask what product is going into your lips before you agree to it.
Who should inject it
The FDA's advice is to use a licensed health care provider with experience in dermatology or plastic surgery who is trained to inject fillers. The 2008 standard guidelines for dermal fillers published in the Indian Journal of Dermatology, Venereology and Leprology say a qualified dermatologist may use fillers after adequate training, with thorough knowledge of the anatomy being injected. Cleveland Clinic puts the other side plainly: you should not get lip fillers from a beauty salon or spa.
- Check the doctor's registration on the National Medical Commission's Indian Medical Register.
- Never buy filler online or inject yourself, including with "needle-free" pens. The FDA warns against both.
Recovery: what is normal
The appointment takes 30 minutes to two hours, says Cleveland Clinic. Swelling usually goes down within 24 to 48 hours but can take up to a week. Cleveland Clinic's aftercare advice adds that it usually takes two to four weeks to settle completely, that vigorous exercise is best avoided for several days, and that you should leave time to heal before a big event such as a wedding. In wedding season, book weeks ahead, not days.
The risks, plainly
The common side effects the FDA lists are bruising, redness, swelling, pain, tenderness, itching and rash, and many clear within days to weeks. Cleveland Clinic adds cold sore flare-ups, and says not to have lips treated during an active cold sore.
The serious risk is rare but real: filler accidentally injected into a blood vessel can block the blood supply. The FDA says the chances are low, but the complications "can be serious and may be permanent": tissue death, vision problems including blindness, and stroke. A clinical guideline on these blockages rates the lips a moderate-risk area (the forehead, nose and the space between the brows are rated very high), and says dissolving the filler with hyaluronidase is highly effective and has been shown to prevent tissue death. That is why the injector's training matters: they need to recognise a blockage and treat it.
After filler, the FDA says to seek immediate medical attention for unusual pain, vision changes, skin near the injection site that looks white, grey or blue, or any sign of a stroke.
What lip filler costs in India (checked 2 October 2026)
These are the ranges clinics publish on their websites, copied as written; most are worded as typical or indicative prices, not a clinic's fixed price list. Some price per syringe, some per millilitre and some per session, so compare like with like. They are a guide, not a quote, and Kaya notes that consultation and follow-up fees can be extra.

| City | Clinic page | Published range | Priced per | Page dated |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mumbai | Allure MedSpa | ₹20,000–₹25,000 | Syringe (1 ml), plus 5% GST | Not shown |
| Mumbai | Ambrosia Aesthetics | ₹24,000–₹30,000 | 1 ml | 25 Feb 2025 (page metadata) |
| Mumbai | Skin & Shape Clinic | ₹18,000–₹25,000 | Lips (approx.) | Not shown |
| Delhi | Skulpted by Kan (Delhi market range) | ₹20,000–₹35,000 | 1 ml syringe | 20 Aug 2026 |
| Delhi | Derma Arts (Delhi market range) | ₹10,000–₹80,000 per session; ₹10,000–₹60,000 per syringe | Session; syringe | Not shown |
| Bengaluru | Clinic Next Face | ₹15,000–₹25,000 | Syringe | Not shown |
| Bengaluru | Kaya | ₹20,000–₹50,000 | Session | 28 May 2024 |
| Hyderabad | Kaya | ₹20,000–₹50,000 | Session | 28 May 2024 |
| Chennai | Skinfinity Aesthetics | ₹16,000–₹42,000 | 1 ml syringe | 25 Feb 2026 |
| Chennai | Velantis Dermatology | ₹20,000–₹30,000 | 1 ml syringe | 6 Jun 2026 |
In short: Mumbai pages sit between ₹18,000 and ₹30,000, Delhi spreads widest, Bengaluru (Bangalore) starts at ₹15,000 a syringe and Chennai runs to ₹42,000 per 1 ml. Because filler is absorbed, the FDA notes, keeping the effect may mean repeating the procedure, so the cost recurs.
How a topical lip plumper works
A plumper puts nothing under the skin. According to DermNet, lip plumpers increase the apparent volume of the lips "either by vasodilation or hydration": by widening blood vessels, or by holding water.
- Warming and tingling agents. Capsaicin (the heat in chilli), cinnamon and menthol cause tingling and heat through the release of a nerve messenger called substance P, as described in a 2018 trial of a plumper containing all three. Blood vessels widen, and the lip looks fuller. Vanillyl butyl ether (VBE) is a warming ingredient used in cosmetics; in a 2022 laboratory study on cells it activated TRPV1, the same heat-sensing receptor capsaicin acts on.
- Hydrating agents. Hyaluronic acid applied to the surface is a humectant: it draws water into the outer layer of the skin. Well-hydrated lips look smoother and a little fuller.
The effect is real, but small and short. In a 2017 study of 60 women using a ginger-based plumper, blood in the lips rose within 15 minutes, held until 30, then fell; in the first 15 minutes, the lip stood out 0.5 mm further. In the 2018 trial, investigators judged lips fuller in all 18 people who completed it at 15 minutes and in 12 of 18 at one hour; most said the tingle lasted under 15 minutes. Those results belong to those formulas, not ours.
The same mechanism is why plumpers can irritate: DermNet notes that irritation of the lips is the most common reaction to spices such as cinnamon and cayenne pepper, which act on receptors that release substance P. It adds that a kiss soon after applying a plumper can pass the reaction on to the other person. Allergy is a separate risk: a 2024 systematic review lists lip plumpers among the lip products linked to allergic reactions. On brown skin there is one more reason to take irritation seriously: inflammation can leave dark marks that are more intense and last longer than on lighter skin. Patch test first, and wash off anything that stings rather than warms.

Which one makes sense for you
Filler makes sense if you want a change that lasts months, accept a medical procedure with recovery time and a small risk of serious harm, and can budget for repeat visits. Start with a consultation with a qualified dermatologist or plastic surgeon.
A plumper makes sense if you want your lips to look fuller for a short while, such as for photographs, without needles, and a modest, temporary change is enough. It is not a procedure and does not do what filler does. We draw the same line between injected and topical PDRN in What is PDRN?
Using the Extreme Lip Plumper, with HydraGlow as prep
The Extreme Lip Plumper is a click-pen lip serum you dose yourself. It works through two warming agents, vanillyl butyl ether and a small amount of capsaicin, which increase blood flow in the lip; the volume and the warmth both come from that. Nothing is injected. It is not a procedure: the effect is topical and temporary.
- 1 click: everyday volume, soft warmth.
- 2 clicks: noticeably fuller, stronger tingle.
- 3 clicks: the fullest look, strongest warmth.
Click once to start, apply with the precision tip, massage to spread, and let it absorb before colour. The finish is clear and non-sticky: wear it alone, or under or over lipstick or gloss. The tingle is expected and settles within a few minutes; if it stings rather than warms, wash it off. Patch test first, and do not use it on broken, chapped or split skin, or if you are sensitive to capsicum or vanillyl derivatives. The full ingredient list is on the product page.
Lip colour sits better on smooth lips than on dry flakes. The HydraGlow Lip Mask is a peel-off mask: one even layer on clean, dry lips, slightly past the lip line; wait about 10 minutes, without pressing your lips together, while it turns from glossy to matte; then peel it off in one piece from one corner. It feels cool, lifts dry flakes as it comes away and leaves jojoba conditioning behind. If your lips feel comfortable afterwards, follow with the plumper, then colour; if they feel raw or chapped, skip the plumper that day. Planning for a wedding or Diwali? Our 30-day pre-wedding skincare plan puts these steps on a calendar. Use it two or three times a week or before makeup; patch test, and skip it on cracked, bleeding or sunburnt lips. It contains alcohol, which helps the film dry, plus flavour and a cooling agent; the full ingredient list is on the product page. Ingredients in the rest of our range are explained in our ingredient dictionary.
Frequently asked questions
Does lip plumper work?
Yes, within limits. Two studies of other formulas found fuller lips 15 minutes after application; in both, the effect was temporary. It is a small, temporary, topical change, not a filler result.
How long does lip plumper last?
It depends on the formula. In the 2018 trial, 12 of 18 people still had fuller-looking lips at one hour. We have no wear-time test for ours, so we call it temporary rather than guess.
How much does lip filler cost in India?
On the clinic pages we checked on 2 October 2026, most per-syringe or per-ml ranges fell between ₹15,000 and ₹42,000; session prices went up to ₹50,000 (Kaya) and ₹80,000 (a Delhi clinic's range for the city). Top-ups cost again.
Is lip filler safe?
Cleveland Clinic calls lip fillers very safe when performed by an experienced provider such as a dermatologist or plastic surgeon. Most side effects are short-lived; a blocked blood vessel is rare but serious. Choose a qualified doctor, not a salon.
How can I get fuller lips without filler?
With cosmetics, only temporarily: a lip plumper on smooth lips. Longer-lasting options, such as filler, are medical procedures; that conversation belongs with a dermatologist or plastic surgeon.
